Zander Fishing Lure: Fast Session Success with Zand Fat in High Water

🎣 Fast Zander Session: Why the Zand Fat Made the Difference in High Water

A beautiful zander that could not resist the vibration of the Zand Fat.

Yesterday late in the afternoon, with barely one hour left before sunset, conditions looked ideal for river zander fishing. Even though temperatures stayed low, the river was high and stained. In these conditions, I knew zander would move closer to the banks to escape the strongest mid-river current.

That’s why I picked a strategic spot scattered with rocks at the exit of a side channel. This area creates the perfect refuge where baitfish gather for shelter—and where predators are never far behind.

🔥 First Cast, Instant Strike

I rigged my ML rod (10–35g casting weight) with a Zand Fat 14cm in Fire Tiger. On the very first cast, I felt a brutal hit travel straight through the rod blank. The fight started immediately and a first 70cm zander quickly slid into the landing net.

The session kept building from there. After a few more casts, a second and then a third fish fell to the irresistible swimming action of this zander soft lure.

🚀 Switching to the Zand Curly: The 80cm+ Verdict

Unfortunately, a passing pike decided to join the party. Because my leader was not designed for toothy predators, it cleanly cut through the rig. Still, this setback only made me more determined.

The Zand Curly 16cm Mojito fooled this impressive 82cm fish.

I then switched to one of the new 2024 releases: the Zand Curly 16cm in Mojito colour. After only a few casts, I got another much heavier strike. Moments later, the result was clear: a superb 82cm zander perfectly ended the session.

When conditions align, it sometimes takes only a short window to turn an ordinary fishing trip into an unforgettable zander session.
